The tree grows very fa“t, and on very' poor soil, especially if it be calcareous. If the bark be wounded a resinous juice flows out, which hardens in a few days. The wotid is hard, heavy, glossy, like satin, and susceptible of a very fine polish. It is propagated bv cuttings of the roots.
