![3. Nerve-cell {ganglionic) layer. The retinal bloodvessels, which are the 1 tranches of the central artery and vein, lie in this layer. 4. Internal molecular layer. A fine network of fibres, which shut off the large bloodvessels from the posterior layers. 5. Internal granular layer. 6. External molecular layer. Similar to No. 4. It shuts off communication with the capillaries. 6a. The retinal plexus border layer. A narrow, well-defined layer of fibres discovered in the retinas of man and most monkeys, and so named by Lindsay Johnson. It is seen (frontispiece) in line with the front of the fovea, and extends only over and around the macular area. 7. External granular layer. C h. o to ' eL.
