    rous treatises already alluded to, afford ample opportunity of obtaining particular information to all who are well grounded in the principles of the profession. What appeared to bemost re- quired was something that might enable his pu- pils to prepare themselves for the subject of lec- ture, and refresh their memories with the prin- ciples which the explanations and demonstra- tions delivered by him were intended to illus- trate. Theexperience of last session, at the com- mencement of which the first half of this work was completed, proved that he had not alto- gether miscalculated the benefit to be derived from such an aid to his exertions. And he trusts that the concluding part, which now appears, will not be found of less assistance. The Author further ventures to hope, that the work will not cease to be useful when his lectures are concluded, and that, by affording a compendious record of the principles which have been learned, it may be of permanent ad- vantage in practice.
