As these lectures have been my guide in prosecuting the study of the multifarious sub- jects contained in them, and as I cannot accuse myself of indolence in pursuing the plan which they pointed out, I feel myself justified in say- ing, that tliey contained a vast variety of useful infortr.ation, and a most luminous detail of an- cient aiifi ii^odern experience, whilst I recollect that the eiUhusiasm ^vhich Dr Thomson in- stillett into Im pupils by his mode of teaching, iiiade thcMi not only attentive listeners, but sti- mulated therm to the ardent study of the science into the principles of which they were initi- ated.
