XV CENT. 309 Horae Beatae Mariae Virginis, cum Kalendario. ILLUMINATED MANUSCRIPT ON VELLUM [Flemish XIVth century], 100 //. (74 by 5 in.), written in gothic letter, 19 dines to a page, 12 pages with initials in red and blue on a background of gold, the text within a painted frame-work surrounded by a delicate border of floral design painted in gold and colours, numerous finely painted sinaller initials, early binding of leather over oak boards stamped in blind (rubbed and clasps missing) XIV CENT. 310 Hora. Heures a lusaige de Rome nouuellement imprimées esquelles a plusieurs belles hystoires de Ja bible auec les figures de l’apocalipse La.dance macabre et plusieurs autres, lit. goth. Jong lines, 22 toa page, PRINTED ON VELLUM, within woodcut borders of Biblical subjects, the dance of death, arabesques, grotesques, ete. Kerver’s large device on the title (rubbed), anatomical man, 12 small wocdeuts of the Occu- pations of the Months and the Zodiacal signs within archi- tectural borders; 18 full-page woodcuts representing the usual subjects, all within architectural borders, numercus smaller miniatures and initial letters, red morceco gilt ccn- sisting of a panel with a large coat-of-arms surrounded by conventional borders with an ornament of scroll-work and birds in the angles, g. e. Paris, Thielman Kerver, 1507 A-Q 4 in eights. The woodcuts and initials are finely illuminated.
