Made by a group of research students at Manchester University's Molecular Embryology Unit, who are not practised film-makers, this visually shaky film chronicles the deprivations and frustrations of life on short-term research grants, contrasts their professional priorities with those which bureaucracy thrusts upon them, and includes a little science as well. The uneven quality and excessive length of the film unfortunately distract the viewer from the students' genuine problems in pursuing a career in difficult working conditions and with very uncertain prospects.
