    (B) Control.—(1) Salt Lahe area.—LacUoa'ii control operations in file Salt Lake area were carried out during tlie period as before. Miicli attention was paid to tlie clearance of vegetation from the breeding places. As mentioned above Jion'ii-breeding was under considerable check during the period. There have been no epidemic outbreaks of malaria in the area. Incidence of adult hidlowii fell considerably. The spleen rates in the villages under ludlowii control operations remained low during the year. Certain amount of breeding was knowm from the area during the cold weather of the year, but on vigorous measures being adopted in the form of extensive weed-clearance, some minor drainings and thorough treatment with larvicides, the breeding of the species was considerably reduced. There was no malarial outbreak in the area. (3) Caleutta Corgoration area.—The mosquito-controlling pfficer of the Calcutta Corporatiop received regular timely informations of the ludlowdi breeding wdthin the Corporation jurisdiction with suggestions of appropriate control measures. These measures w^ere carried out by the staff of the Corporation throughout the year and the ludlowii breeding remained under check. (B) KALA-AZAR. Special Anti Kala-Azar Scheme in Darjeeling district. The special anti-kala-azar scheme which had been inaugerated in the Darjeeling district since December 1937 was continued throughout the year under report at an estimated cost of Es. 17,000. Twenty kala-azar treatment centres and two non-dieted shelters were maintained
