    The statement below will indicate that as in the previous year, there was a rise of male infant deaths over female infant deaths in all the districts of Bengal. Grreater resisting power in infancy and greater risk to life during the age periods between 5 and 10 and 15 to 40 seem to be three outstanding features of a female life. The greater risk between the ages 5 to 10 is probably due to comparative neglect of the female children by the parents as compared to male, while the risk between the ages 15 to 40 is mainly due to child bearing and con¬ sequential effects of frequent pregnancies.
