Cholera deaths and death rates in districts.—As last year, nine districts in 1939 returned rates above tbe provincial average (0*7). Howrah with 1 *7 per mille topped the list followed by Burdwan with 1 *5 and Bakarganj with 1 ;2. Calcutta and 24-Parganas came next with 1*1 each, the district of Hooghly with 1 ;0 following. ISadia returned a death rate of 0*9 from cholera, while Paridpur and Murshidabad each with 0;8 closed on the former. The districts of Dacca, Tippera and Birbhum recorded the rate (0-7) which was same as the provincial cholera mortality rate. Excepting Darjeeling which was free from cholera, the remaining 14 districts recorded cholera death rates below the provincial average. Compared with 1938, seven districts showed an increase in the death rate from cholera. It was stationary in two, while in all other districts there was a reduc¬ tion in the rates, Darjeeling having already been shown to have been free from it.
