The following are the signs used by medical m§n in prescriptions : Oj or one pint. • » one ounce. 5,] ,, one dram. 3j „ one scruple. j ,, one minim (equal to 1 drop), gr. j „ one grain. ( one half; as, jss, half a dram; 3jss, a Ss ” ( dram and a half, aa „ ‘ of each substance.’ The quantities in prescriptions are usually written in Roman numerals (j, ij, iij, etc.). APOTHECARIES’ MEASURE. WEIGHTS. 1 grain. 1 scruple ( = 20 grains). 1 dram (= 3 scruples). 1 ounce (= 8 drams). MEASURES. 1 W[ = min. 1 fluid dram = fl. drm. = 60 minims. 1 fluid ounce = fl. oz. = 8 fluid drams. 1 pint =0 =20 fluid ounces.
