Description

Collection of short alchemical works and extracts. in French and Latin. Illustrated with small pen-drawings of alchemical apparatus on ff. 53v, 87, 105, 103v and two diagrams on fol. 131. Contents: The various tracts are written by different hands, some probably of the early 17th century A number of pages have been struck through.

24 pages + 145 folios 4to. 22 x 17 cm. Original rough calf binding. Five leaves have been cut out at the end: at the beginning one fly-leaf has been cut out, and another cut in halfolio

Biographical note

Nos. 4 and 5 are attributed to 'Perier' ['Perrier'], and No. 10 to 'Dubois'. These are possibly the same person, as MS. No. 609 'De la pierre philosphale' is be one 'Perrier ? St. Picard, Sieur Dubois'. No. 6 The 'Joannes Nannius' mentioned here may be the 'Johannes de Nani [or Narni] [fl. c. 1350] who is stated to be the Author of a 'Lapis minor' in Frater Joannes Baptista's Collection, Vol. I (6) [MS. No. 383]. 7 Perhaps form his 'De vinis'. [Cf. Thorndike Catalogue of Incipits: Col. 188.]. 15 At the end of this work is written 'Experto crede Roberto'. 17 In the margin, and partly cropped in binding, is a note 'Transcript d'un Anci[en] MS. en velin tir? d[e la] Biblioth?que de Mo [?] En fevrier 164[?] s?avoir si c'est ce Martyrisatus cit?.
