![40. Lead glycerine of subacetatc, B.P. It may be painted on as it is in chronic eczema; in more active cases it is diluted 1 part to 7 of glycerine at first, and the strength gradually increased. It may also be diluted with distilled water. Zinc. 41. Calamine lotion.—Powdered calamine 3ij, oxide of zinc 5ss, glycerine »ixv, rose-water 5J. For erythema and eczema, where there is little or no discharge, and for most actively hyperaemic conditions. Bismuth. 42. Bismuth nitrate gr. 7£, oxide of zinc 5ss, glycerine inxv, hyd. perchlor. gr. rose-water 5J. For acne rosacea and other hyperaemic conditions. STIMULANTS FOE THE SCALP, OR HAIR LOTIONS. 43. Strong liquid ammonia 5j, sweet almond oil 3], spirit of rosemary 5iv, honey water 5ij. For baldness (Wilson). 44. Strong ammonia liniment 5SS, castor oil 5SS, purified spirit of turpen- tine 3SS, white precipitate gr. 15. Brush into the scalp with a hard brush (Tilbury Fox). 45. Tincture of cantharides 3], distilled vinegar 3jss, glycerine 5jss, spirit of rosemary 3JSS, rose-water to gviij. To be sponged into the scalp night and morning (Tilbury Fox). 46. Expressed oil of mace 3SS, spirit of wine gviij. To be sponged into the scalp (Bateman). 47. Tincture of cantharides 5J, distilled vinegar siijss, rose-water to 5viij. 48. Vinegar of cantharides gj, glycerine 5yj, spirit of rosemary gij, rose- water to Jviij. To be sponged in night and morning. SOOTHING AND PROTECTIVE OINTMENTS. 1. Spermaceti ointment B.P. 2. Simple ointment B.P. 3. Ceratum petrolei (Martindale) vaseline 2 parts, paraffin (1350 to 1400) I part. Melt and stir till cold. 3a. Lanolin 5yj, olive or almond oil 5ij- Lanolin alone is too sticky. Rumex. 4. Rumex root Sxviij, yellow wax jjij, prepared lard 5xij. Bruise the root, boil for two hours in distilled water, strain and evaporate to jiv. Add gradually the lard and wax already melted, and stir the whole until cold. Cucumber. 5. Cucumbers 750 parts, rectified spirit 25 parts. Pass through percolator to make spirit of cucumber. Then take lard 125 parts, spermaceti 15, white wax 8, spirit of cucumber 8. Melt the fats, put them into a warm mortar and stir in the liquor.
