Mr. Langston Parker says that this remedy, med in conjnnciion with the mercurial vapour hath^ x>i^odrices^ excellent results in some obstinate forms of tubercular disease oftheslcin; as icell as in secondary venereal ulcerations, proving intractable after the em])loyment of other remedies. 55. Bed Iodide of Mercury and Arsenic. IJ. Hydrargyri lodidi Eubri, gr. 1; Potassii lodidi, gr. 120; Liqiioris Arseuicalis, fl. drs. \\\ TiucUirse Lavandulae Compositae, fl. oz. 2 Spiritus Chlorofonni, fl. drs. 4; Aqnam, ad fl. oz. 12. Mix; aud direct,— '•'One tablespoonful to be taken tliree times a day, immediatel}^ after food.—In 2Jsoriasis, and some invetei'ate sqtiamous and tubercidar and ulcerous affections of the slcin. 56. Iridin and Euonymin. J^. Iridin, gr. 4; Confection of Eoses, sufficient to make a pill. To bo taken at bedtime occasionally. Euonymin, gr. 2; Confection of Eoses, sufficient to make a pilL Iridin and Euonymin are recommended by Prof. Eutherford, ofEdin- burgh, as very effective remedies for biliousness. A dose of PiUlna icater &r other saline aperient should be taken early next morning. 57. Hydrastis. ]J. Tinctura3 Hydrastis, fl. drs. 2—4; Aquae destillata3, fl. oz. 8. Mi-x. Two tablespoonfuls tliree or four times daily. Usefid for constipation referable to a sluggish liver. Dr. Eutherfori> has shown that the resinmis hydrastin'^ obtained from the root of hydrastis is a poiverftil stimulant of the liver. Hydrastis is useful also for piles and prolapsus ani. It is a stomachic tonic, and relieves the gastric catarrh of chronic alcoholism. It has been of service in intermittent fever. 58. Sulphide of Calcium. Calcii Sulpliidi, gr. t\i—g; Saccbari Lactis, gr. 1. Make a powder. To be taken every two or tbree bours. A very useful remedy for slovj supp^iration, boils, scrofulous sojrs, and enlarged glands. 59. Nitrate of /Silver. Ij^. Argcnti Nitratis, gr. 1; Exti'acti Ilyoscyami, gr, 3. Make a pill. To be taken everj^ twelve hours, on an empty stomach, for about ten days. In cases of idiojxithic jaundice dependent upon gastro-duodenal dis- turbance rather than on disease of the liver. I^. Argenti Nitratis, gr. 3—12 ; Micfe panis, gr. 30. Divide into- twelve pills, and order one to be taken three times a day. In progressive locomotor ataxy, &c. See P. 419. The gums should be watched, as the gingival mucous membrane becomes discoloured before the skin is affected.
