    ill the Union Worklionse was 56, equal to a rate of 50.(S per 1,000 births. The Eates for 1910, 1909, and 1908 being 40.1, 42.8 and 44 resiieetively. That of 1910 being the lowest recorded for the Borough, (as was the rate of 1909 at tlie time). The rate for the five years ending 1904 was 52.9, and for the five years ending 1909, 53.1. The rates of England and Wales for the same periods were 39.4 and 40.1 respectively. The rate was 36.4 in the ISTorth Ward, 58.3 in the South, 30.7 in the West, and 82.1 in the Central. Death Rate.—The number of deaths registered as ocenrring in the Borongdi was 768, equal to a Crude Death Eate of 20.4 per 1,000 liAung, as compared with an average rate of 19.6 in the xirevious ten years, and 17.1 for 1910. One hundred and ten occurred in tlie Cdiesterheld and North I)erb37shire Hospital, 127 in the Union Workhouse, and 13 in Penmore Hospital. These included 84 belong- ing to the Chesterfield Enral district, 29 to Newbold and Whittington Urban District, 8 to the CTaj^ Cross Urban District, 10 to the Blackwell Enral District, 8 to Bolsover Urban ])istrict, 3 to Clowne Enral District, 1 to the Borough of Sheffield, 1 to Dronheld, 1 to Nottingham, and 1 to Heage Urban District, all of which were accepted by ihe medical officers of health of the districts to which they belonged and included in their returns. Tlie deduction of tliese, and the addition of those of 20 persons belonging to the Borough who died in public institutions outside it gives 642, of which 253 were those of males and 289 those of females, as the nund)er, (‘or- rected for public institutions only, to ])e attributed to the borough.
