![Secondary Grammar Schools All children are exarnined prior to entering grammar schools and the school nurses make an annual visit to test the vision and measure the height ■ and weight of all pupils in these schools. The routine medical examination is restricted to children entitled to leave school at the end of the school year, but any child who is thought to require a special examination can be brought to the notice of the medical officers when they visit the school. \ The following table gives a summary of the results of the leavers’ examination and the defects found:—. Number of leavers examined . 279 General condition of leavers examined:— Satisfactory . 279 Unsatisfactory ...‘. — Defect or Disease Requiring Treatment:— Eyes: Vision . 2 Orthopaedic: Feet . 2 Uncleanliness Examinations Statistical details of school nurses’ work in connection with head infestation are as follows with 1958 figures in brackets: — Nurses first inspections in schools 55,784 (50,390) Nurses re-inspections in Number of school visits schools for first 6,341 (5,145) inspection . 'This does not give the w'hole picture of the work in- ^ volved as advice on the subject with demonstration and help in li; cleansing in suitable cases is part of the normal w^ork of clinics and \] home visits. r The figure of 1,123 individual children found to be infested I represents 6.019^ (6.26G- in 1958) of the school population, a figure which has shown only small variations in recent years. As in the past i more attention has been paid to schools with a high proportion of X infested children and to families with a poor record in this respect. It is disappointing to find that the total number of infested children](https://iiif.wellcomecollection.org/image/b29937577_0016.jp2/full/800%2C/0/default.jpg)
