And be it Junker cnacled, That it fhall and may be lawful for the perfon adminiftcring the government for the time being, from time to time to appropriate the ifland commonly called and known bv the name of Governor's Ilbnd, for the purpofe of erecting buildings, or fetting up tents thereon, for the reception or accommodation of any pcrfon or perlons infected, or fuppofed to be infeded with any fuch diftemper as aforelaid, or any other fick or difordcretf perfon or pcr- fons, and their neceffary attendants ; any lealc, grant or dc- mife made, or to be made, by the regents of the univerfity notwithftanding. Section III. An ACT to prevent the bringing in, and fpreading of infebli- ous difeafes in this State. Passed ift April, 1796. CJ)E it enabled by the People of the Stale of New-York, repre- ^ fentcd in Senate and Affembly, That a perfon praftifing phyfic fhall be appointed Health Officer for the city of New- York, and that feven perfons fhall be appointed commif- fioncrs of the Health Office for the laid city, and by which feveral names of office the laid perfons fhall be refpectively known in the law. And be it further enabled, That all vcffels arriving in the port of New-York, from parts beyond the fea, hav- ing on board forty paffengers, all veffels arriving in the faid port, having on board a pcrfon fick with a fever, all veffels arriving in the faid port on board of which a perfon may during the time fuch vcffels were at the foreign port from which they laft failed, or during their paffage from thence to the port of New-York, have died of a fever, and all veffels arriving in the faid port from places, where at the time of their departure, an infecti- ous difeafe prevailed, fhall be fubject to quarantine of courfe.
