About this work

Description

Colour-enhanced transmission electron micrograph showing a fungal infection penetrating through the cornea into the anterior chamber of the eye (left of picture). This infection follows a corneal graft. Many polymorphonuclear leucocytes have come into the area to combat the infection, which has caused the destruction of the corneal endothelial monolayer. The hyphae are approximately 1-2nm in diameter.
