Here I simply repeat the remarks contained in my report for 1953? viz. it is the intention of the Council to abandon the Shearwater supply as soon as an alternative supply can be made available. Only slow progress is being made in providing an alternative supply since the second borehole provided at Arn Hill is only regarded by the Consultant Engineers as a standby in case of breakdown of the pumps for the first borehole. Since the raw water at Shearwater is grossly polluted and also acid in reaction with strong metallic solvent properties, it should be abandoned with all expedition.. Est. Treated Water.
