![Remarks* The above results indicate ^^•'ater organically pure and free from sewage percolation. Thq Microscopical examination calls for no adverse remarks. The figure for “Chlorine in Chlorides,” “Total Hardness” and “Total solid matter” are all rather lower than when last reported upon in September. 2. Drainage and Sewerage. The following infonuation has been supplied by the Borough Surve_vor. “In April, 1948, loan sanction in the sum of 2I'63,000 was given l)y the Ministry of Health for tlie construction of a newi main trunk sewer to serve the Newington Housing Estate and Haine area., Work on this sewer is being carried out by direct labour and is proceeding well. x\pproximately one third of the work has been completed and it is hoped that the whole of the work will be finished by December, 1949. About five miles of drains and sewers were constructed by direct labour on Units 3, 4 and 5 of the Newington Estate.” The Council possess two modern Dennis Gully Emptiers, which are available for cesspool emptying on request. 3. Rivers and Streams* Tliere are no rivers or streams witliin the Borough. 4. Public Cleansing. The que.stion of refuse disposal still presents serious problems, ddie existing plant which was designed to deal with peak loads of 40 tons per day, has to deal witli new record high level peak loads of over 70 tons per day. Dining 1948, the Ministry of Health approved in i)riiici])le a scheme for adding two cells and a smoke trap to the exi.sting plant. It is hoped that tire work, which will be carried out during 1949, will impr(ove matters in relation to the disposal of refuse. The total weight disposed of during 1948 was 15,054 tons, represent¬ ing an increase of 54 tons as compared with 1947. 5. Closet Accommodation.
