    Annual Report ot the Senior Sanitary Inspector for the year 1948 i\j.r. ]\Ia\’or, Madam and Gentlemen, 1 have mnch pleasure in presenting' the following report detailing tlie duties carried out In the vSanitary staff during 1948. Considerable attention has l)een given to the sanitary conditions of catering establishments, and it is gratifying to record the helpful co-operation of those concerned in carrying out any improvements required, and I coiivSider the distribution of plaques, etc., issued under the hygiene scheme of the British Tourist and Holiday Board has l'>een of con.siderable assistance. The results of the provisional grading by- the methylene blue test of ice cream has not l>een altogether teatisfactony, and some modification would appear necessaryr I am still of the opinion that enforcement of a pre'packed article would go a long way^ to improve the safety of this commoditv. During the year an up-to-date facto’^y for the production of ice cream on a wholesale scale commenced operating in the Borough. IMuch of the ]')roduct from this establishment is sold pre-packed and it is considered that this is one more step towards the ideal. The two Ministry^ of Food slaughterhouses which supply meat to the Thanet towns have kept the staff l)usy, especially during the lioliday- season, and to effectually- carry out the many important duties, an adequate staff is necessary. I desire to record my thanks to the Chairman and members of the Public Health Committee for their assistance and to acknowledge my appreciation to the Medical Officer of Health and the staff of the Department tor their loyal co-operation and efficient work during the year.
