November 3 Do. 5s. Total ... 15 Unwholesome Meat.... Periodical Inspections have been made, but no unwholesome meat has been found. Private Slaughter Houses....There are 19 private slaughter houses in the Ben ugh, and 34 visits have been made throughout the year. They were found generally in a satisfactory condition, considering the nature of seme of the structures. One was cleansed and lim.ewashcd under notice. One application for building a slaughter-house was refused on account of the pro- posed building being near duelling houses. Recently 1 have examined the Public Abattoirs in some of our large towns, and in Germany, and the advan- tages of such buildings are many. Every animal miust be slaughtered in these buildings, and is examined by a V^eterinary Surgeon before and after it is killed, and if an)'disease is suspected, a microscopic and bacteriological examination may be made. No carcase is allowed to be removed unless it has been passed by the Veterinaiy Surgecn, and has the cfficial stamp. In Germany there is already a great diminution of diseases traceable to affected meat, such as Trich- inosis, Tape Worms, &c,, which are due to eating “ measely ” perk, or the flesh of animals with the larvae of tapeworms, &c., in it, and many cases of tuber-
