The foundation of a lecture in Glasgow, of which the subject should on certain occasions belong; to the history of medicine, was a happy method of commemorating the studies and the tastes of Dr. James Finlayson.^ In this city, where he was born and received his education, where he practised his pro- fession, rose to distinction, and died, his character and the events of his honourable career are too well known for it to be necessary for me to dwell upon them before you.
