![or stitches; keep quiet. Cover the wound with a doubly folded piece of lint soaked in Carbolic Acid Ointment, or Calendula Lotion. Do not disturb the wound too often j but keep it moist with the Ointment or Lotion. If the wound is extensive, or the blood comes in spurts and is bright red, send for a Surgeon at once; an artery is cut. Until the arrival of the Surgeon, tie a handkerchief with a knot tied in it; around the limb near the wound (between it and the heart;) which place over the artery, [which may be found by the pulsation ;] With a stick inserted under the handkerchief twist it tight. Should fever supervene, treat as fever. A few drops of Arnica or Hamamelis given occa- sionaly will be found useful. After suppuration Heper Sulph., Silicea, Calc c, or Sulph. In case of Broken Bones, Dislocations, etc,, send for a Surgeon. 396. SPRAINS. Bathe the parts in hot or cold Water, and apply Stramo- nium j or Arnica and Rhus tox. lotion.. Or, Carbolic Acid diluted in water. Or, Aconite Liniment; keep the joint as quiet as possible. 397. BURNS AND SCALDS.
