![Saturate lint with Carbolized Oil [one of the first to ten of the latter] and cover the part : or, with the Carbolic oint- ment. Or, dampen Soda or Soap and apply : or wet the part and cover with Starch or Flour ; or the white of an Egg, Mucil- lage, etc. If there is nervousness, pain or fever, treat as such ; as given under the appropriate head. 398. ELECTRICITY. The general principles on which electricity is used for the cure of disease may be given briefly as follows : Over inflamed or heated parts the positive pole should be applied; while the negative pole is applied to the cold or inactive parts; pass the current .down towards the chest; if the parts are below, up toward the heart. Remember that the right hand or side of most persons is positive and the left negative. These few rules given, use your common sense in each separate case. 399. LIMITS OF MEDICINE. Alas ! no herb in any garden grows That can avert grim Death's unerring throes. Were doctors skilled enough to undermine Each fell disease, they'd almost be divine.
