![SECTION I STATISTICS AND POPULATION Seventy less children were born in Halifax during 1968 I 615 L1VE BIRTHS (compared with 1,685 in 1967), equivalent to a crude birth rate ot 17.1. The rate for 1967 was 17.8. When multiplied tbe Comparability Factor, the adjusted rate for 1968 is r'^46, whiclt corresponds with the rate for England and Wales ?,Q16-9/Jlkglbmate ,llve ^rths numbered 208 as compared with *.19 in 1967, and equal to 12.87 ot the total live births. Notifications of Premature Births during 1968 showed an increase of 4 on the previous year. During 1968 there were 19 Premature Infant Deaths an increase of 8 on the previous year. Details of all premature live and still births for two years are shown in Table I la. There were 28 still births during the year, the same as in 1967 The rates tor the two years were 16.0 and 17.0 respectively, whilst the rate tor England and Wales tor 1968 was 14.0. DEATHS of mfants under one week (19) were 1 less than in the previous year and the total Perinatal deaths numbered 47. The PERINATAL mortality rate being the same for bothyears: 29 0 (1967) ^9 0(1 9681 the national figure being 25.0. ' v The total number of children who died under the age of one year was 47 compared with 48 in the previous year, and The infant mortahty rates tor the two years were 28.48 in 1967 and 29.16 in 968 was 8 0 Th? figUr£ f°r EnSIand and Wales for 1968 was 18.0. The figures relating to infant mortality for a ten-year period are shown in Table V.
