![Ekerkfe in the interval of the afthmatic fic Is extremely beneficial. The good effecls of it on the conftitution, as well in diminifhing plethora, as in removing irritability, and ftrengthening the whole frame, we have had- occafion to mew in former publications. It is hardly neceiTary to add, that too much can never be faid in praife of it, when proportioned O 2 . to proper in fnmmer, at which time too he thinks the more cooling remedies are to beadvifed, fuch as vitriolated falts, fill ammoniac, ful prune!, fa! fuccini. The acids and acefcents which he recom- mends are, the tartarous acid,—verjuice,-—vinegar,—mineral acids,—acid vegetables and fruits, as forrel, barberries, grapes, lemonade, lemon-poffet-drink, butter-milk, decoclions of pip. pins, conferve of forrel and hyps, rob of barberries. FJoyer further advifes the patient to acidulate his meats and drinks.— But all thefe things fliould be ufed with proper reltrictions, as fometimes they ferment, diforder the ftomach, and occafion griping pains and acidities, particularly in hypochondriac people. Floyer thinks acids are the beft correctors o£ opium, bitters, gum ammoniac, &c. and greatly improve thofc remedies in althmatical cafes ; for he properly confiders all very hotmedi- 1 cines as hurtful. He ufed very much what he fliles his bitten Acid, of which the following is the recipe. R. Rad. zedoaria? i. coq. in Aq. Font, jfo ij. ad ]fo ifs. Colaturos adde aceti.j* iv, in quibus diflblvatur ammoniaci ^ i. Colatura: addemellis j jv> Coq. &defpumatur & coletur. When he found his Affhma coming on he took three fpoonfuls of that bitter acid, and[ drank after it toaft and water, which, he fays, allayed the inflations of his ftomach, and put off the fit.
