There is a long section on beers. The naif woodcuts show scenes of daily life, some of a very intimate kind, feasting and drinking, various kinds of food. Rare. Venice, 1785 £5 5s Folio. Old half calf, a little worn. Engraved frontispiece, title, one printed leaf, leaf of contents, and 60 fine engraved plates of the Cries of Venice. One of the most delightful 18th century costume books showing all the characteristic costumes of the street vendors in Venice in the 18th century. There are several delightful plates showing char- acters in carnival maskerade and street displays of puppet plays. It is stated that only 200 copies were printed. Pasted beneath the plates are English verse translations of the inscriptions. DANCING. 65 Duvernot (J. B.) Album de Terpsichore contenant deux Quadrilles de Contredanses. Paris, Pleyel, N.p. (c. 1820) £4 As Oblong folio. Orig. green boards. We do not pretend to know whether this pretty book is complete. It contains 2 series of five dances, numbered, with music, and one extra in the middle.
