![A systolic reading of 140 mnis. Hg, may be taken as definitely abnormal in persons under the age of 20 years. This allows a generous latitude. Nevertheless, 21 hoys of the 141 examined were found with a systolic blood pressure of 140 nuns. Hg. or more. That is 14% of the hoys of this age grouj) in the upper forms of the school showed an abnormally high systolic blood pressure unaccompanied by any sign of visceral disease and without definite clue as to cause. This is a high figure in this age grouj) and it merits further investigation. The significance of a raised systolic blood pressure in youths is uncertain. It may be temporary and has been observed by others to occur in young persons who are preparing for school and university examinations. The existence of a raised blood pressure—even temporary, suggests that the cardiovascular system of these subjects is unstable and it is possible that these boys may in later adult life if exposed to certain conditions of life or work develop a permanently raised blood ])ressure with its accompanying inefficiency and ill health.](https://iiif.wellcomecollection.org/image/b29149174_0104.jp2/full/800%2C/0/default.jpg)
