About this work

Description

Photograph of the legs from a chicken severely affected by the burrowing mite, Cnemidocoptes mutans. The scales on a chicken's leg are normally smooth in appearance, but in this animal the parasitic mite has burrowed beneath the scales resulting in a ragged appearance, distortion of the feet and claws and lameness.
