With them the whole history has to be brought out, sometimes slowly, sometimes more rapidly, so that the patient awakens to a sense of where his real weakness or error has been. The “ present ” error is sometimes, but not always, of the moral order : more often, I think, it is a failure in practical adjustment to daily life. Often, too, there is some unresolved ethical or intellectual problem. But there is always some unacknowledged error in the conduct of life, physical, psychical or spiritual, and the patient must come to realise it himself.
