About this work

Description

Praelectiones de ulceribus Patavii habitae a die 4 Novembris 1560 usque ad diem 14 martii 1561. Preceded by the 'Oratio in funere... Gabrielis Fallopii iiii Idibus Octobris [12 October] A.D. 1562' by Joannes Savius Zamoscius. This MS. contains notes of lectures taken down by an anonymous student at Padua University. Fallopius' lectures were printed in 1563, but the published volume only contained the Lectures down to 1558. While it is therefore possible that this MS. may contain some unpublished parts of the Lectures, it is to be noted that Fallopius was in the habit of delivering his course of lectures on the subject every three years. Produced in Padua.

Publications note

At the end of the text the compiler states 'Reliquas autem lecturas de hac materia non scripsi quia Patavio Doctor discessi, antea scripseram totum tractum de m[orbo] g[allico] quem lege'. The author of the Funeral Oration was Jan Savius [or Sarius] Zamoyski [1541-1605] 'Princeps juventutis litteratae' who became Rector in 1563, and later Chancellor of Poland. According to Tiraboschi ('Storia della letteratura Italiana', 1809, Vol. VII, p. 629) this Oration was afterwards printed. No record of it has been traced in the bibliographies, but there is a copy in the Wellcome Library [6792].
