    Tue quadruple division of the Signs adopted in this Essay is authorised by the correspondent division of the Indian Zodiac in the Phil. Trans. for the year 1772. The four Hindoo deities which may preside in the quarters of the zodiac appear to be BRAHMA, VISHNOU, SIVA, KRISHNA, The parallel gods of the ancient Persians are OROMAZES, MITHRAS, AHRIMAN, OSCHEN. Of the Egyptians, OSIRIS, THE ELDER HORUS, TYPHON, THE YOUNGER HORUS. Of the Greeks and Romans, URANUS, SATURN, JUPITER, APOLLO.
