![With Compliments. THE RADICAL OPERATIVE TREATMENT OF TRICHIASIS/ By Kenxeth Scott, M.B., F.R.C.S.Edin. Clinical Lecturer on Ophthalmology, Egyptian Government Medical School, Ophjhaljiic Surgeox, Kasr-el-Aini HojpiTAL, Cau.o, ktc, The following method of treating trichiasis is the outcome ol my experience in P]gypt, Avhere this condition is found m quite one quarter of ■ tiaose cases afflicted with eye disease which require operative interference dmiug treatment -bor the sake of brevity, I wish for the moment to include under the tem trichiasis, all, those cases in Avhich from whatever cause, except spasm, the eyelashes sweep against the front of the eyeball as in trichiasis and distichiasis, either total or partial, also in entropion, and these whether occur- ring m the upper or lower eyelid, because the followino- operation is equally applicable to all of ihem, and nearl? always ensures perfect results. ^ Originally when these cases presented themselves for treat- ment, 1 naturally employed those operations which are com- monly found descibed in text-books and elsewhere, but was most dissatisfied with the results, owing either to r^currenc; of the malady, or to the after-deformity produced in the eyehd the latter consisting of visible and unseemly cicatrices el- even amounting to actual distortion. c^ci^ices, oi 'ihe method of operation which I at present employ and T>ow describe I have for want of a better word to Express ts nature, termed '^tarsal re-position. The process of peKu^ It has been very gradual, and it was not until a g ea manv cases had been operated on, and the defects appearfng in each ore'rr ''f been rectified, that, finlaV ha^^'ig pei- uccet Tave fT -^T^^' f -i^la almost invafilble t\\^t\^^^'not'^,^''^\^^ summaiised.
