    Footwear: No children were found to have unsatisfactory footwear. Uncleanliness: 0.3% of the children systematically examined were found to be in a verminous condition of head and/or body. The numbers were five boys and seventeen girls. Skin Diseases: Ringworm: No ringworm of the body was discovered. Impetigo: Eight cases of impetigo of the head were discovered during the session and one case of impetigo of the body. Scabies: Eight children were found to be suffering from scabies during the year. Nutrition: Twenty-six of the children examined were found to be suffering from defective nutrition. Twenty-three of them were classified as ‘slightly defective’. SCHOOL DENTAL SERVICE Report by Felix A. Cassidy. Chief Dental Officer As I shall reach retiral age in a few weeks’ time, this is my final annual report. The work undertaken during the session was, including that carried out by the part-time officers, equivalent to the services of 10 full-time dental officers. Three vacancies existed in the staff throughout the year despite repeated efforts to obtain recruits to fill them. For many years, we have been largely dependant on and grateful for the service rendered by young female dental graduates most of whom, however, retired on marriage having served only one or two years. At present, six of the whole time dental officers are males, of whom three are under thirty years of age. When the school population within the County was around 26.000 an establishment of thirteen dental officers was sanctioned, today the school population is over the 40,000 mark and is steadily on the increase. These facts may give some indication of the problem facing the department. Another factor, one which is not always fully appreciated, is that dental disease, especially in the modern child is a recurrent disease and when a child is rendered dentally fit through treatment it is both unwise and
