As it was pointed out by Dr. IMarsh in his paper in 189(), the cases of wrong diagno.sis which are .sent to the hospital as diphtheria, consisting, as they do, very largely of scarlatina and tonsillitis, have a much smaller mortality than tho.se of diphtheria, and among the ca.ses left at home those, wrong diagnosis serve largely to dilute the
