![ICE CREAM (HEAT TREATMENT) REGULATIONS, 1947 to 1951 There are 4 premises in the district registered under Section 16 of the Food and Drugs Act, 1955 for manufacture and sale, and 38 premises registered for the sale of ice cream. Only one manu- facturer was actually operating during the year. 13 samples were taken during the year of which 4 were from vendors trading ice-cream manufactured outside the district and the remainder from the manufacturer within the district. The results of the bacteriological examinations are as follows:— Results Grade I Grade II Grade III Grade IV 11 Nil 1 1 Provisional Grades 1 and 2 are regarded as satisfactory, Grades 3 and 4 are unsatisfactory. It will be seen that 85 per cent of samples fall into Grades 1 and 2, and 15 per cent fall into Grades 3 and 4. Managements of all food premises were sent letters at the beginning of the year informing them of the new legislation in the Food and Drugs Act, 1955 and the Food Regulations 1955. A copy of the booklet issued by the Central Council for Health Education has also been supplied to all establishments. Opportunity has been taken to educate food handlers at their place of employment and the Officers of the Health Department address local organisations on this subject.
