Hospital Accommodation for Infectious Diseases.—We are well supplied for tliis puiipo'se, as we have a permanent Ha.spital for 17 beds, 7 of them being for scarlet fever in one block of two waids and a duty room, and in anotheQ- block thei'© .are two wards of four l>eds eadi for di.ptiheoa, and 'two small rooms whi-cli are useful for enteric cases, or when a private room is lequired. There are two i>ermanenit niui’ses, a w.ard-maid and a sea’vant, with a man as gardener, who works the .sttam disinfeotoT. The Hospital is kept entirely for t'he distriot, and is much used, t'hei'e having been 36 patients adunitted during the year, while 45 oases were notified. Re.si.dents are admitted free except^ that they pay their own medical attendant, lUbile the Hospital is adniittii.stei’ed and superilntenideid by me. A small' fee is charged for visitors, who also pay theiiir doctor. The easeis tiieated cluiring the year were 28 of scarlet fever, 6 of diphtheriia, and 2 of measles. The total cost of 'the Hospital during the year was £407 11s. 8d. and the income £109 6s. 6d.. being £85 from the Eisisiex Oounfiy Council at £5 per bed, and £21 6s. 6d. for the main- tenance. of patients, with £3 for use of the laud, so that! the charge on the raities fbr each patient was £8 5s. 7d. for the year. 3. Administration of Local or Adoptive Acts.—Theie is a local Act for Clacton which contains many imweis and is of considea-a.hle help, and we have the Infectious Diseases Notification Act, tire Infectious Diseases Pi-eventiion Act, and the Notification of Births Act in force. 4 Chemical and Bacteriological Work during the Y’ear.—■Every month I analyse a .sa.mple of the water brought from differeait ixirts of the distiiot. and I am allowed to have a hactieriological examination when I eonsidea’ it neoessai’y. I have had .three this yeai’, .and one of them was negalti've. D. —Prevalence and Control over Acute Infectious Diseases. All the infectious diseases which occurred during the yoiir are noted on Table 11., and this is the second year in succession in whidi we have not liad a case of enteric fevea'.
