    ADVERTISEMENT. In preparing a new edition of the Micdlical For- mulary for publication, we have endeavoured to ren- der the work as complete as the nature of the subject will admit. The materials have been carefully re- vised, and almost every class of medicines augment- ed, by the addition of many prescriptions derived from the periodical journals, standard medical works, and our professional friends. We are chiefly indebted to the writings of M. Majendie, for the formule relating to the newly-dis- covered alkaline remedies. If we have occasionally inserted compounds, which apparently belong to the pharmacopeeia, it was from a conviction of their uti- lity to the country practitioner, and also from the fact, that they are not contained in the ordinary phar- macoporias. The list of Poisons with their Antidotes, has been revised ;—the Index also has been formed on a dif- ferent plan from that of the first edition, and in such way, that simple medicines, and their numerous com- pounds may be referred to at a glance. We cannot close this article without expressing our sincere acknowledgments to our friend Dr. Chapman, for the very flattering manner in which he has recommended the Médical Formulary to his class in the University of Pennsylvania.
