![With the exception of a small area in the South- West of the County adjacent to Selby, which has witliin the past hfteen years become industrial, the County is entirely agricult oral. There [ire no collieries or iron- works, but cement works have recently been opeaied on the Humber Hank, whein abundant supplies of clialk can easily be obtained. Iduring the holiday season the holiday resorts on the East Coast, especially Hridlington, are much faAa)nied by the industrial districts of tlie West Hiding and tlie Midlands. Tlie rateable value of the ('onnty is £1,014,949, and the levy of a penny rate produces £4,502 10s. Td. POPULATION. The i)opnlation of the East Hiding at the Census taken in 1921 was returned as 174,TOO, an increase on the Census of 1911 of 18,902. d4ie Hegistrar Ceneral, however, snbseciuently amended ttie figures to try to overcome the false position whicli had been created by the delay in tlie taking of the 1921 Census until after llie recognised annual holiday period had commenced. The East Hiding population for 1921 was eventually given as 102,041, and from this figure the population for the vear 1925 is estimated at 100,470, an increase of 4,849. Duly one Sanitary District, viz., Beverley Hural, is given sepai'ate figures for birth-rate and death-rate respectively, due to the presence of a non-civilian popTilation at the East Yorkshire Hegimental I)e])ot.
