As in the (*ase of the adjoining Skirlaugh Dural District, this locality is fortunate in having the Hull (Virjioration main jiassing through a number of jiai'ishes on the Aviiy to AAb’theriisea, and in addition a bramdi main is laid to the CroAvn CoIoua on Sunk Island. Unfoi'tunately, excejit in Patrington and the Crown (hilony, relatiA^ely few houses are direvtly connected to the mains. Stand jiijies are not alloAved in the Aullages, through Avhi(di the main passes. In consequence the greater number of houses are compelled to use surface Avells. About one-sixth, actually 290, of tlie inhabited houses are sujijilied Avitli Avater from the Hull mains. At A\dnestead, Avater from a Avell is jiumjied b} a Avindmill to a graA'ity tank fi'om which it is jiiped to most of the liouses in the Aullage. P()('KLiXGTOiX. At Alarket AVeighton there is a A^ery good Avater sup|:)ly deriA^ed from the chalk. The Avater is jiumjied by an oil engine to a seiwice reseiwoir on a hill above the Avell, and then distributed by graAuty to the toAvn and to the A’illage of Goodmanham. Both Barmby Aloor and Shijiton liaA^e complete installations of Avell and service reseiwoir. The! jinmping from the Avell is inexpensively jierformed by tlie use of windmills. A number of other Aullages obtain their supplies from the sjirings as they issue from the chalk.
