Sceloporus undulatus consdbrinus (Baird & Girard). YeUow- banded Spiny-scaled Swift. Y^arrow reported this species from Santa Fe and described Scelo- porus tristichus from Taos, the description being written by Cope apparently. Afterward Yarrow reported tristichus from Taos and consobrinus from both Taos and Santa Fe. Cope later repeated Yar- row’s records for both localities, but made both of them subspecies of undulatus J Ditmars ® ignores tristichus. Small lizards of this group are very abundant at El Eito de los Frijoles, darting in and out among the rocks and logs everywhere in the canyon. The only specimens we collected are assigned to consobrinus. Kodohiy. Phrynosoma douglassii hemandesi (Girard). Western Horned Lizard. Reported at Taos, Santa Fe, Abiquiu, and San Ildefonso by Y’arrow and Cope.'' We collected two specimens of horned lizard at El Eito de los Frijoles, and both are hemandesi. Our Indian informants declared that snakes swallow th^se lizards, swell up, burst, and the lizard comes out alive. This is not more fantastic than some of the popular notions of wliite people concerning animals. The name “horned toad,” usually applied to this animal, should be dropped even from popular literature, as it belongs distinctly to the Reptilia and not to the Amphibia. Kodohiy.
