    Nicholsons Apparatus for Heating Curling Irons and other Domestic Articles. NOW KNOW YE, that in compliance with the said proviso, I, the said John Nicholson, do hereby declare that the nature of my said Invention, and the manner in which the same is to be performed, are particularly described and ascertained as follows, that is to say :— In the Drawings hereunto annexed are represented my apparatus for sup- 5 plying heat as aforesaid. Figure 1 represents a view of an apparatus for heating a pair of curling irons for curling hair; and Figure 2 represents a perpendicular section of the same apparatus. h, b2, b9 b2, Figs. 1 and 2, is a cylindrical tube, closed at the bottom at b2, for the reception of a pair of curling irons to be heated. The said tube is supported by the sides a, a\ a, a1, forming 10 a hollow cone, and continuing downwards perpendicularly at a\ a2, a\ a2, forming a cylinder, e, e, e, et is a lamp ; c represents the conductor of the wick ; g, g, g\ g\ is a door for taking out and replacing the lamp ; c1 is the flame of the lamp playing upon the bottom of the tube b, b2, and heating the same, together with the curling irons intended to be placed therein; 15 i, i, i9 i, &c., are apertures in the perpendicular sides for supplying air to the flame; and Jc, Jc, Jc, &c. are apertures in the conical sides for allowing a draft to be formed upwards for the more completely supporting the flame. The same letters in both Figures 1 and 2 represent the same things, and the dotted lines in Figure 1 shew the internal parts, supposed to be seen through the sides. 20 v is a handle for carrying the apparatus about; the whole of the apparatus constructed of iron, brass, or other fit material. Figure 3 represents an apparatus for heating an instrument called an Italian iron, for ironing certain parts of clothing, n, n, n, n9 is a hollow conical casing of iron, or brass, or other fit material, supporting the Italian iron r, r1, and fixed thereto, or made 25 to shift, as may be deemed necessary, and likewise joined to the base p, p, forming a foot; w represents the flame of the lamp o9 o, o9 o9 which receives its supply of air by means of apertures in the upright sides, as at t, i, in Fig. 1, and also the draft by means of apertures in the conical sides, similar to Jc9 Jc, &c. in Fig. 1 ; and the said flame plays upon the under surface of the upper side 30 of the Italian iron, and likewise imparts heat thereto throughout by heating the air contained therein. The tube b, b2, Figures 1 and 2, may be varied in form, and rendered capable of receiving, for the purpose of being heated, irons of other forms, such as those used by apothecaries and druggists for spreading plasters, and those used by wine merchants and others for melting wax on 35 bottle corks, likewise for irons, commonly called pinching irons, used for ladies* hair, and a small instrument known by the name of a French iron, used for ironing certain parts of cloathing; likewise the tube b9 b2, may be supported above the lamp in an horizontal or oblique position, or its dimensions, or the
