    Sections which have been rewritten include the laboratory findings in nephritis, coagulation of the blood, blood-platelets, special pathology of the blood, intestinal protozoa, and many others. The chapter upon Serodiagnostic Methods has also been rewritten in order to present the subject in greater detail both as to technic and interpretation of results. This chapter was originally from the pen of Professor Ross C. Whitman, and a portion of the original material has been retained in the revision. The section upon Complement Fixation now represents the course in Technic of the Wassermann Test which is given at the Uni- versity of Colorado. The author is under obligation to Dr. J. A. Kolmer for reading the portions of the manuscript dealing with his new standardized method. In a book which deals largely with clinical microscopy accurate pictures of microscopic structures should play a large if not predominant part. They give information which cannot be conveyed in any other way. For this reason the illustrations have been carefully revised. The poorer illustrations of the previous edition have been omitted, and one colored and one black plate have been added, as well as 93 illustrations in the text. Most of the illustrations were made from material used in our laboratory courses. Many of these are photomicro- graphs by the author. Inadequate as is the photomicrograph in some fields, its value in clinical microscopy cannot be ques- tioned. As before, the names of those to whom credit is due for material used are given in the text, but references to places of publication are not included. Given the names of the authors, such information can easily be found in the Index Medicus or the Quarterly Cumulative Index of Medical Literature. Ex- tensive bibliographic footnotes are cumbersome and of doubtful value in a work of this character. A moderate number of references to articles in recent periodicals have, however, been included as suggestions for supplementary reading.
