    INSPECTION AND SUPERVISION OF FOOD I am indebted to the Chief Inspector of Weights and Measures for the following report:— FOOD AND DRUGS ACT, 1955 Summary of work done under the above Act during the year ended 31st December, 1965. Total Samples Obtained Other Milk Foods Genuine Other Milk Foods Unsatisfactory Other Milk Foods Submitted to Public Analyst 44 248 32 232 12 16 Tested by Sampling Officers 456 449 7 500 248 481 232 19 16 748 713 35 During the year 748 samples were obtained of which 500 were of milk and 248 were of food and drugs . The number of samples submitted for analysis is of course limited on account of the cost involved but an endeavour is made to cover as wide a range of food as possible. From the many different articles of food on sale it is sometimes difficult to decide just what type of food to sample to ensure that the best possible use is being made of the service . administered for the protection of the consumer. Even one par- ticular type of food may be produced by many d fferent manu- facturers. However, when it is considered that many local authorities are carrying out this service under the Food and Drugs Act and that in many instances similar articles of food are obtain- able throughout the country, it is probable that the majority of i foods are periodically sampled hence giving protection to con- sumers irrespective of the area in which they reside.
