The two Gold Medals for the present Year were adjudged, on Wednesday, the 4th instant, to Sir Walter Scott, Bart. “ for his Illustrations of the Manners, Antiquities, and History of Scotland, in many Works of pre-eminent genius, both in verse and prose, particularly the Lady of the Lake, and Waverley;” ind to Robert Southey, Esq. LL.D. Poet Laureat, “ Author of the History of Brazil, and of several other distinguished Works in English Literature.” Part I. of the first volume of the Transactions of the Society, consisting of sixteen Papers, selected from the Communications which have been read at the Ordinary Meetings, was published in the month of February; and is now on sale to the Public, and in course of distribution, gratis, to the Members, at the Apartments of the Society. A Fasciculus of Hieroglyphics, in continuation of a Work begun by the late Egyptian Society, prepared with an attention to accuracy which, it is hoped, may lead to further discoveries in the interpretation of those interesting Monuments of Antiquity, has likewise been published, at the price of One Guinea to Members,](https://iiif.wellcomecollection.org/image/b22006023_0012.jp2/full/800%2C/0/default.jpg)
