![at all. Of these 193 men, 88 relapsed within 27 days after treatment ; 76 were not sufficiently well to allow of the quinine being withheld any longer ; and only 29 were considered well enough to be discharged from hospital without treatment, as the exigencies of service demanded. We may thus suppose that during the month only 15 per cent. of the men who remained untreated by quinine escaped either relapses or illness—so that 85 per cent. of such untreated cases remained ill and 456 per cent. actually suffered from relapses during the period. These studies were made from the 23rd March, 1917, to the 17th October, 1917.
