![Pci'RPiiRAL Fever.—I'wo notifications of this disease were received during 1909. I'lie cases were of a somewhat slight severit}’, and a good recov'ery made. I'lie circun'i- stances were investigated by me, and a report made to the Midwives’ Conmiittee. XoN-NOTiEiABLE Xymotic I )iseases AltlionMi these 11 diseases are non-notifiable according to law, yet tlie svstem adopted by me of notification by the I lead I'eacliers of the Schools, in cases of absence caused by infectious diseases, has been of value in assisting the carrying out of preventive measures, ddiere has been no necessity during 1909 for closure of schools for any reason connected with jiublic health. Measles has been conspicuous by its rarit\', although two deaths of children from this disease were recorded ; both cases were under 5 years of age. ^^'hoo])- ing Cough has been prevalent throughout a great part of the year, commencing in March and April, a few cases still occLiring in the later months; 7 deaths (6 of them under i year of age) took place from this disease. 26 cases of Chicken-Pox among school children have been reported to me, the greater number occurring in November and December, ddie school notifications numbered in all 64, as follows : — Whooping Cough ... 36 Chicken IMx 26 Mumps I German Measles I Total 64 Cerebro-Spinal Fever.—One fatal case of this occurred in the Spring ; the case was at first thought to be Measles of a malignant type. Lumbar jiuncture was performed hy me, after consultation, and the characteristic organism of this disease was found by me on bacteriological exami- nation of the spinal Iluid. No other cases of the kind ha\'e lieen reported. PuLMON.VRY Tuberculosis (Consumpti(jn of the Lungs). —31 persons belonging to the district died from this disease in 1909. 8 of these deaths took place in the Union Infirmary at Farnliam.
