![4'lie Council liave in conscquent'c wisely decided to adopt a voluntarv system of notilication in the district, which wall come into force in 1910. Disrasks or l^RSPiRATORY Orgaxs.—Ilcsidcs tliose men- tioned abo^'e as due to tubercidosis of the lungs, 39 deaths took ])]ace from pneumonia and broncliitis; 13 of these took' ])lace in clnldren under 1 \ear of age, in some cases being probably secondary to i)re\'ious attacks of whooping cough. d'here have been a number of cases of inlluenza of a mild t\pe during the early and the late months of the year, and two deaths were ascribed to this disease. There lias been, howe\'er, no actual epidemic of influenza. % Civil Isolation’ Hospitat..—'bhis is situated at North Town, and consists of an Administrative lllock. Scarlet l^'ever Block (12 beds). Diphtheria Block fi2 beds). Laundry, Discharge Block, Coal House, and Disinfecting House, d'here are also two single, bed wards situated on the west side of the Administrative Block', but isolated from the main building. d'hese two weirds are fitted, with all necessary appliances, but have not yet been occupied. It is proposed in 1910 to admit suitable cases of tuberculosis for treatment into these wards (vide d'uberculosis Report). A “Modified” W’ashington-Lyon steam disinfector is in use at the Hosihtal ; 2,610 articles have been disinfected in it during the year, d'he amfudance has been in use on 145 occasions, and 112 houses have been visited either for the ])urposes of removing patients, or of carrying out dis- infection, or both. 14 (Iwelling houses in which cases of “consumption ” were, or had been, living were visited, and 18 rooms and 112 articles in connection therewith dis- infected. vSeveral houses also were disinfected for measles, erysipelas, etc. A six per cent, solution of formalin in the “L(|uifex” handspray is used for these purposes.
