No text description is available for this image![Professional Nursing in the Home. A voluntary body, tlie Burnley District Nursing Association, undertakes the ])rofessional nursing of cases of general sickness in the home. The Local Authority has an arrangement for payment per visit in con- nection with their Maternity and Child M'elfare Scheme whereby the above Association sends a nurse when required to cases of whooping cough, measles and diarrha^a in young children, to cases of Puerperal Fever, Pyre.xia, Ophthahnia Neonatorum and for Maternity nursing. Midwives. No practising Midwives are employed or subsidized by the Local Authority. Apart from those in institutions, 21 Midwives notified their intention to practise in the Borough during 1932. In November, 1932, the Corporation decided to compensate midwives, whose patients are admitted to the Municipal or Bank HaU Hospitals, either on account of the development of a complication which necessitates hospital treatment or of an emergency arising after the onset of labour. The. sum of 7/6 is paid to the midwife, subject to her first satisfying the Medical Officer of Health that she had been engaged for the confinement and had performed the necessary ante-natal examinations.
