Description

Folded magazine insert advertising Ashton & Parsons Ltd.'s 'Phosferine' tonic. The front shows a 3 section design with an angel ('spes' lettered on her frock) bringing hope to the sufferer who is praying in the foreground. A crown and ribbons is above. The back shows a very muscular man in a bathing costume and sandalsripping apart the stump of a tree, an axe at his feet, a red sky behind him. Dr. W. Gordon-Stables is quoted inside. The tonic was supposed to cure: neuralgia, dyspepsia, anaemia, brain-fag, depression, impoverished blood, rheumatism, sleeplessness, indigestion, influenza, nervous headaches, debility, weakness and nervous exhaustion.
